Candida Hofer

PhotoUtopia Intro: Some images argue so strongly for the ‘straight’ approach to the medium, that it’s easy to briefly be convinced it is the only valid school of photography. For if you can take images that are so beautiful, engaging and encapsulating, that seem to celebrate the subject matter and not the artistry of the photographer, then why bother with any other approach. Hofer’s work is all of the above, her images are majestic, yet she comes from the Becher school of typological photography. Using her direct, unfussy approach to produce images that record space in such a way that they speak or rather sing for themselves.
